Thirteen Weeks

This week was the first week I was back to work so there were some challenging days. I did not cry much until Thursday night. Sophia does great with bottles but after four bottles during the day she is having a little trouble latching on when she is nursing at night. That, coupled with some long days at school, led me to have my own little boohoo fest. I am sure I will have a few more before school is out. But thankfully that won't be very far off.
Sophia gets worn out when she is at Lorena's and ends up coming home and taking a long nap. Fortunately she is still sleeping through the night. I am thankful for all of the amazing care that Lorena gives to Sophia. She is in wonderful hands while she is there.
Dave has been taking weekdays off so he can spend two days a week with Sophia. It is so nice to have him home at night after long day with my students.

On Friday we had a short visit with Kristen and Tori. Kristen is going to watch Sophia for a few hours while Lorena is out of town this week. I am so thankful that she is able to help us out.

We got a new white noise machine. I love her cloudb giraffe, but it does not have a continuous play option and turns off after 45 minutes. Her naps have only been as long as the white noise lasted. The new machine has helped her to stretch out her naps.
Sophia got a new toy this week that I am obssessed with. It is called an Oball. I love that she can hold it and move it all around. It is also the first toy that she is able to pull towards her mouth.

She is still a champ at rolling from her tummy to back. I am pretty sure she will soon be rolling over from her back to tummy. The top half of her body is ready, she just needs to figure out the bottom half. She scoots and spins around during tummy time now. None of it is purposeful, but she has some strong legs that push her along.
We had no plans for the Memorial Day weekend and Dave had to work. I was just thrilled that I could spend three days with my little bean. I missed her so much! She may have been held and snuggled a little too much, but I could not help myself!

There were not many pictures taken this week. :(
Hard to see in this picture but she makes the cutest pouty face.

Taking a snooze while Hunter made new friends at PetSmart.

Three Months

Sophia,
You are three months old today (May 28, 2012).
We do not have a doctor's appointment this month so I am not sure of your exact size, but you weigh a little more than ten pounds.
You are wearing size one diapers.
You wear 0-3 month clothing and you are getting ready to wear 3-6 month clothing - things are starting to get tight!
You eat every 2.5-3 hours during the day. When you take bottles you suck down 5 ounces. You are a great eater, but need to work on breathing while you are drinking your bottle.
You sleep through the night. Most nights bedtime starts at ten and you usually wake up around 6:30.
Your routine is consistent - which is good since Mommy is back at work for a few weeks. You are very adaptable during the week. You have been spending three days a week with Miss Lorena and two days a week with Daddy. Weekends are spent with Mommy.
You are making the best faces this month. The smiles come very easy now and you have some great inquisitive expressions. You have the best pouty lip when you are upset.
At the very beginning of the month you started rolling over from your front to your back and I was lucky enough to catch the first time on video. You roll over most times you do tummy time unless you are fussy. Your grip has improved tremendously and you are holding onto everything!
Rolling over during our photo shoot!
You have not been as fussy this month and have developed a very mild cry when you need something. Screaming tends to happen most often when I change your diaper before you eat. You hate to wait when you are hungry - just like your momma.
We usually offer you a pacifier when you are fussy but there are some times that you don't want it. You have started putting your whole fist in your hand and sucking on it, which does not always work.
You have been sleeping in your crib in your own room. Sometimes you take a nap with Daddy or Mommy on the couch.
You have just started to realize that we have dogs. Before you were oblivious to their barking and you made funny faces when they sniffed at your head or gave you kisses. Now you jump and cry when they bark and startle you. You have also begun to look at them when they are near you.
We are obsessed with you and love watching you grow and change. You have brought so much joy to our lives!
Your monthly comparison (forgot to zoom in, whoops!):

Twelve Weeks

Sophia has been showing off her skills at rolling over this week. Her drooling has also ramped up tremendously.
Crazy looking picture but it shows her slobbery face and drool-soaked onesie.
We made the trip to my school to meet my students and colleagues. Sophia was wide-eyed the whole time we were there. I think it was the hardest drive I have taken...and she was in the car with me!

We took another hike with Dave sporting Sophia in the baby bjorn - it was a much easier trip for me since I had Hunter to pull me along.
On one of the fishing piers at McDowell Nature Preserve.
On Friday night we enjoyed our first dinner with friends who are parents of twin boys. We had a great time catching up and chatting about the little ones. Of course I did not take a picture, but it was a great time.

She has spent the past week smothered by my kisses and snuggles. I felt the need to overdo it since I headed back to work on Monday.

Pictures from the week:
Sitting on Hunter.
As soon as we get a saddle Sophie can ride her very own horse.

Ready to go on our hike.
Swaddled and getting ready for naptime.

Love that tongue!

Chunky cheeks.

Back to Reality

I have LOVED every minute of my time home with my little bean but tomorrow is my return to the real world. Thank goodness summer break is a few short weeks away.
Can't wait to be spending my days snuggling this sweet baby again.

Birth Announcement

It took me awhile to get this together and sent out. I saw the idea on an internet friend's blog (thanks Emily!) but had no clue where the print was from.
I was browsing etsy and found it again and Dave loved the idea!
We didn't include our last name since all twelve letters of it would have hogged so much space, but I love how it turned out.

She Rolls!

I am one proud mama this morning...Sophia rolled over from tummy to back.

I have been taking videos so I can see her sweet face and hear her cute little noises once I head back to work. This morning I was filming some tummy time in her crib and she shocked me by rolling over! This is the FIRST time she rolled from tummy to back. I think she was as surprised as I was.

So, just to make sure it was not a fluke I moved her to the carpet and she did not disappoint. This is the third time she rolled over. Ignore the fussy noises. She was over it!

If I am this proud from a little roll from front to back, I can't wait to see how I feel when she crawls...talks...walks...graduates.

Love her!

Eleven Weeks

This week went by too quickly!

We celebrated Dave's birthday with some time uptown. He had the day off, but had to go in for a meeting. While he was at the restaurant Sophia and I wandered around. When we met back up with Dave we ate lunch at Rooster's. I was impressed that they created a gluten free menu since the last time we had eaten there.
Dave checking Eagles news on his phone while Sophia eats.
After we ate and stopped by a pub so Dave could get a birthday brew, we wandered to The Green so that Sophia could eat. The green is this fun little oasis uptown. I took a bunch of pictures, but the sunlight and shade made for some funny shots.

I also got to celebrate my first Mother's Day! The best part of the day was just spending time with Dave and Sophie. I love being a mommy! We hiked the McDowell Nature Preserve. It was our first hike since the early part of my pregnancy and I realized how out of shape I am.
Attempting a self portrait.
Sophia met two of my favorite ladies. We made a trip to my former school so Sophia could finally meet Carole and Laura - two amazing women I used to teach with.
She mastered rolling on her side this week. She has been doing it for quite awhile, but it seems like every time I put her down she ended up on her side.

I also ~finally~ got birth announcements sent out...eight weeks after the picture was taken.

A few pictures from the week:
Kona sticking close during a thunderstorm.
She cannot keep her tongue in her mouth!

Who needs a thumb when you have a wrist?

What are you looking at?!?

Snoozing on her side.

After bath snuggles.
Adding a few more details to the nursery.

Ten Weeks

This week Sophia met the lovely lady who is going to care for her while I am back at work. She seemed right at home but I still shed tears over it.
Sophia got to Skype with Grandpop and Nana again. Technology definitely makes distance easier.

Cradle cap has improved but has still not disappeared yet. Her hair seems darker, but that may be from all of the baby oil massages I have been giving her scalp.

Sophia is officially sleeping in her crib in her own room. I cried over that too. We need to get a new baby monitor though. I did not try to use it before moving her into her own room. The handset does not keep a charge, which I can deal with by having it sit in the charger. The camera makes a buzzing noise at the outlet when it is plugged in (not safe in my opinion) and when I use batteries in the camera they only last three hours. Hopefully I am able to exchange it.

We got a new carrier for Dave to use. I love the moby wrap when I am at home, but it can get a little sweaty and does not offer much head support for my wiggly little thing. Dave tried out the baby bjorn and liked it. I've worn it a few times but find the moby wrap more comfortable.

Sophia looking up at mommy in the Moby wrap while being very fussy.

Hanging out in the Baby Bjorn.
I finally got around to getting birth announcements together. I wanted to use a pose from her photography session and they took a little longer than expected to get back so I am using that as my excuse (not the fact that I waited three weeks once I had the pictures). I will share once I have mailed them. Wonder how long that will take...

Pictures from the week:
Taking a snooze at Five Guys while waiting for fries.

Waiting to get wood cut at Home Depot after a blow out and change of clothes.

Having a rough day :/

Breaking out of her swaddle.
Stretching out after naptime.

All smiles.

Sucking on her wrist instead of the pacifier.
This was another night where she went to bed at midnight after taking a nap at 9pm.
Fine when I don't have to work, but not so fun when I return.

She LOVES her mobile on her swing and follows the birds as they move around.
Silly.
